Hawthorn forward Calsher Dear is progressing well in his recovery from a hamstring injury which he sustained in the club's 19-point Elimination Final win last weekend.
The 20-year-old will miss this week's Preliminary Final against Geelong, however, he has been able to progress his running and will continue to do so this week.
Unfortunately, fellow goalkicker and retiring Hawk Luke Breust suffered a season-ending ACL/ MCL injury in Box Hill's Preliminary Final loss on Saturday.
Hawthorn High Performance Manager Peter Burge confirmed that Breust was having surgery to repair the damage.
Speaking ahead of Friday's Preliminary Final against Geelong, Burge spoke to the two injuries while also providing updates on Finn Maginness and Harry Morrison.
Calsher Dear - Hamstring (1 week)
"Calsher is making progress and running at 60 per cent. He will continue to progress his speed over the week with the aim to be moving freely closer to top speed over the weekend. Being a young athlete who has not had this type of injury before, we'll be cautious, but at this stage, it is looking more like next week that he may be able to rejoin the group, providing the progressions this week go to plan."
Harry Morrison - Quad (Season)
"Harry is still doing some rehab work and will start running in a few weeks."
Finn Maginness - Kidney (Season)
"Finn is progressing his conditioning and joined the players for a kicking drill on Monday. He's progressing really well with the longer-term plan to return to contact in January."
...a word on Luke Breust
"It was devastating to see Punky go down in the VFL Prelim over the weekend. He unfortunately suffered a ruptured ACL/MCL injury, ending his amazing career in the brown and gold. Luke is having surgery today and will then commence the journey of rehabilitation into post-career. It's obviously a disappointing way to go out, but we are wrapping our arms around Punky as a club."
