Hawthorn College of Sport is proud to celebrate a highly successful inaugural year of operations, marked by significant milestones and meaningful outcomes throughout 2025.
Delivered in partnership with Box Hill Institute, the program provided 44 students with invaluable hands-on exposure to Hawthorn’s high-performance environment while they completed Box Hill Institute’s dual diploma of Sport (SIS50321) and Leadership and Management (BSB50420).
Together with Box Hill Institute, the Hawthorn College of Sport program’s impact extended well beyond the classroom.
By year’s end, nine Box Hill Institute students had secured casual employment with Hawthorn, with three set to transition to full-time roles at the Club in 2026.
Students in the program also undertook multiple internships across a range of departments within the Hawks, gaining practical experience in key match-day roles that formed a cornerstone of their learning journey.
As part of this match-day experience, 15 students participated in study trips to Hawthorn’s home away from home in Launceston, playing an active role in bringing the UTAS Stadium experience to life.
Towards the end of the year, the students were also immersed in the Club’s transition from Waverley Park to the state-of-the-art Kennedy Community Centre, establishing themselves as custodians of the program as it enters its first full year at Hawthorn’s new home.
Hawthorn College of Sport Education Programs Manager John Cavarra said:
“With 44 Box Hill Institute students enrolled, 15 undertaking study trips, nine gaining casual employment, and three now progressing into full-time roles at Hawthorn, we are extremely proud to celebrate a very successful inaugural year of the Hawthorn College of Sport program.
“The College of Sport has become an integral part of Hawthorn, allowing us to offer Box Hill Institute students unique, specialised learning experiences within a high-performance environment and opening pathways to exciting and meaningful careers in the sporting industry.
“We look forward to building on the momentum of this program in the years ahead and encourage anyone considering applying to do so now.”
