Roughead arrived at Hawthorn as a raw country kid from Gippsland at Pick 2 in the 2004 National Draft. 15 years later, he finished his career as a Coleman Medallist, a dual All-Australian, and four-time premiership player.

Across 283 games, Roughead showcased his remarkable versatility as a dominant forward and pinch-hitting ruckman, booting 578 goals to sit comfortable among the Club's all-time greats.  Roughead’s on-field impact peaked during the three-peat era, claiming the Coleman Medal (2013), a pair of All-Australian blazers (2013 & 2014), and two of his three Hawthorn leading goalkicker awards (2013, 2014 & 2017).

Roughead’s legacy extends far beyond his glittering CV following his courageous battle against a reoccurring melanoma. His inspirational return coincided with his appointment as Hawthorn Captain in 2017, going on to serve as skipper for two seasons.
