Debuting as a 19-year-old in 1980, Peter Schwab established himself as a vital cog in Hawthorn’s dominant dynasty through the 80s, celebrated for his versatility and an elite ability to limit the influence of star opposition players.
Schwab’s stellar playing career yielded 171 games and three premierships (1983, 1986 & 1988), culminating in an outstanding performance in the centre for the Hawks in the '88 Grand Final triumph.
His profound impact on the club continued well beyond his playing days. After serving as an Assistant Coach, Schwab returned as Senior Coach from 2000 to 2004, guiding the Hawks back to the finals and taking them to within nine points of a Grand Final appearance in 2001.Â
Schwab is one of just six Senior Coaches in Hawthorn’s history to lead the club in 100 or more games.
